Photography students at FET College Dhulaigh will build on their previous experience to apply skills in the areas of technique and vision to an advanced certificate level, suitable for employment or starting a business within the field.  Learners are encouraged to blend artistic, documentary or journalistic work into a portfolio reflecting their own personal style.

This photography course gives students the opportunity to acquire the principles, techniques and creative skills needed for a career in the photography industry. The course delivers digital and traditional skills for photography trough real-world practical projects.

Entry Requirements

Leaving Certificate, Leaving Certificate Applied, QQI level 4 full award. Mature students are welcome. Students who may not have formal academic requirements but who have the ability to successfully participate on the course will be considered. 

If English is not your first language you may be asked to complete an English assessment.

Applicants will automatically obtain a provisional offer on application, but all-level 6 applicants must meet with the course team to present a sample of creative work completed at level 5 or other.  CPD or work practice in art, design or other related disciplines will also be considered where a level 5 has not been obtained.

You will be notified in advance with a date and time to meet with the course team. This meeting will be held on our Raheny Campus.

Career Opportunities

This course will provide the skills required to become a working photographer.  It will allow learners the opportunity to build a valuable portfolio of photographic material for entry into employment or as a freelance photographer.  There are employment opportunities in a variety of areas including Newspapers/Magazines, Advertising, Websites, Corporate Publications, Weddings, Family Occasions, Events etc.

Progression to Degree Level

QQI Level 6 Photography provides an ideal platform for graduates to apply for advanced entry to the degree programmes in Photography in DIT, IADT Dun Laoghaire or Griffith College among others (subject to portfolio submission).

Registration fee: €100
There is an additional charge of €50 for course materials.

Applicants in receipt of a Social Welfare payment will keep their payment whilst studying on the course under the Back to Education Allowance scheme.
