Psychology Course

Certificate in Community Health Services QQI Level 5 (5M4468)  – 1 Year

This course introduces you to the fascinating world of psychological science, offering a broad understanding of how psychologists study, explain, and predict human behaviour. Over the year, you will explore how abnormal thinking and behaviour are identified and treated, while also examining topics in social psychology such as the psychology of evil, attitudes, and bias. You will discover how psychological principles are applied across diverse settings, including mental health, education, forensic, business, marketing, and community contexts.

The course also introduces key areas such as cognitive neuroscience, research methods, and organisational psychology, giving you insight into the many career paths within the social and behavioural sciences.

Why choose FET College Dhúlaigh?

At FET College Dhúlaigh, our modules are carefully selected to give you a solid foundation in psychology, similar to the first and in some cases, part of the second year of undergraduate study.

You will develop foundational counselling skills, learn to conduct and present research, and gain statistical and analytical experience through a supervised research project, designed to mirror the university learning experience.

Our goal is to prepare graduates who not only understand what psychology involves but who are competent in basic research, analytical thinking, and communication skills.

This programme is ideal for learners interested in careers or further study in:

  • Mental health and counselling
  • Law and forensic psychology
  • Social care and community development
  • Business, marketing, and organisational psychology
  • Neuroscience and cognitive science

It also suits anyone fascinated by human behaviour who wishes to build a strong foundation before progressing to higher education.
