Tertiary Degree in Media Technology – Film & Media

 

BA (Hons) in Media Technologies in conjunction with Technological University Dublin.

Throughout your studies, you will have access to industry-standard production equipment, giving you the tools to produce professional-quality work. You will work both independently and collaboratively, creating impactful films and media projects that help you develop your own creative voice.

You will build expertise across all areas of media production, including Scriptwriting, Filmmaking, Live TV Studio Production, Documentary Production, Podcasting, Radio Production and Journalism.

We maintain strong links with the media industry, continuously updating our course to reflect the latest trends, technologies, and professional practices. By putting equipment in your hands early and often, we emphasise learning by doing—ensuring you graduate fully prepared to succeed in today’s media landscape.

 

Course Content

This degree course is split into two streams.

Students will choose between Film & Documentary or Creative Media.

Entry Requirements

All applicants are required to attend for an interview and to submit an original portfolio of their recent media related work which will be discussed during the interview.

The portfolio should contain items that are current or relevant to the application. The emphasis should be on quality and not quantity.

The portfolio should include:

  • Written material, specifically something with a strong narrative (e.g. a script, short story, school essay).
  • Photography. This can include photographs you have taken on your phone or other camera which show good composition, lighting and choice of subject matter. A maximum of 20 photos should be presented.
  • Video/film work you have made or worked on. If your film/video work is a group production you should show parts that highlight your role.

Other material you may submit:

  • Storyboards for a past or future project.
  • Audio recordings such as music recording, podcast or audio for a visual project.

 

Certification

BA (Hons) in Media Technologies.

This degree is a tertiary degree offered in conjunction with Technological University Dublin. Students are registered TUD students throughout the four years of the course. Years 1-3 are taught in FET College Dhúlaigh on our Coolock Campus. The fourth year of the programme is taught by TUD in either their Tallaght or Blanchardstown Campus.
